NEWTOWN manager Bernard McNally hopes to tempt two of the Spar Mid Wales League’s brightest talents to Latham Park during the transfer window.
McNally has targeted Montgomery Town striker Elliott Jones and Llansantffraid Village midfielder Luca Dorigo - son of former England international Tony Dorigo - to breathe new life into the Robins’ Welsh Premier survival bid.
However the former Telford manager conceded no new signings would be completed before the New Year clash at TNS.
“Both players are young and undoubtedly talented and I hope to talk to both as soon as possible.
“I have heard some great things about Elliott from his time at the club as a youth, while he has been in great form for Montgomery.”
Jones was snapped up by Spar Mid Wales League Two side Kerry upon his departure from Newtown in the summer of 2010 and his goals attracted the attention of Montgomery Town a year later, with manager Clive McNamee partnering the teenager with the prolific Gaz Bromley.
Meanwhile Dorigo made his debut for Llansantffraid Village in the Boxing Day victory over Dyffryn Banw.
The former Witton Albion midfielder has endured a torrid two year injury nightmare, but is rebuilding his career and fitness with the Spar club, while already attracting the interest of Newtown.
McNally said: “Luca has had desperately bad luck with injuries over the past two years, but he is now looking to build up his fitness levels with Llansantffraid.
“We hope to talk to him in the New Year about coming too Newtown, but no new signings will be made ahead of the TNS match.”
Meanwhile Newtown make the return trip to TNS on Monday with McNally insisting his side are capable of springing an upset.
An attack minded formation in the side’s Boxing Day duel at Latham Park earned the Robins praise from supporters, with the strugglers leading before a three goal burst swung the game back in favour of the Saints.
However McNally insisted his side’s spirits remain high despite defeat.
“If we can take anything from the game it is that we started with an attacking 4-3-3 formation and it surprised them.
“Perhaps TNS came here thinking that we would be more defensive but we are a passing side and we always feel capable of scoring goals.”
McNally pointed to the second-half introduction of former Robin Scott Ruscoe as the chief reason behind the Saints fightback, after they failed to impress for large sections of the match.
Newtown have been boosted by news that defender Max Penk and striker Nicky Rushton have seen their loan deals at Latham Park extended by parent club Wrexham.
