Llanidloes Town 1 Montgomery Town 1
NEIL Pryce became an immediate Montgomery Town hero with a debut goal ensuring a point at Llanidloes Town.
The former Berriew player-manager underlined his class by racing onto a throughball from Gaz Bromley to slot home with 15 minutes left of the top of the table clash.
Llanidloes saw strong penalty appeals rejected after just 10 minutes when Rhys Jones went down in the area with referee Mark Farrington ignoring the home side’s appeals.
Llanidloes led on half an hour with Steffan Rowlands seizing upon rare indecision from Montgomery goalkeeper Steve Goodwin to loft a shot into the net.
However Montgomery were on top after the break with former Berriew duo Pryce and Mark Probert dominant.
Lee Jones also revelled in midfield to restrict the impact of key Daffodil Gareth Mansell.
Pryce had gone close when he was brought down while clean through on goal with referee Farrington instead opting to caution the midfielder for simulation.
However with 20 minutes remaining Bromley released Pryce who slotted home to the delight of the visiting bench.
Both sides could have snuck victory with Rowlands and Mansell going close for Llanidloes while home goalkeeper Dave Jones produced the save of the match from Elliott Jones.
Montgomery manager Clive McNamee said: “Either side could have won and at the end of the day a point at Llanidloes is not a bad result.
Llanidloes Town assistant manager Peter Jones added: “They arrived with a gameplan and it ensured there was little to choose between the sides over 90 minutes.
“Both sides had penalty appeals rejected in a game of few clear chances and we are happy with a point which I felt was about fair.”
