ANDY Davies has signed for Montgomery Town in a major transfer coup for the Spar Mid Wales League One leaders.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been tempted to return to football, having hung up his boots in the summer to focus on his long distance running career, which saw him don the Welsh jersey earlier in the year.
Montgomery Town manager Clive McNamee confirmed Davies will still be prioritising athletics, but will also be available to enhance the Canaries’ title push.
“It is a fantastic signing for the club,” said McNamee. “Andy has bags of experience at top level and he can play in a variety of positions.
“Andy already knows a lot of the current team having come through the same Montgomery Town set-up as a junior.”
After progressing into senior football in 1996, the Forden-based midfielder impressed with Spar Mid Wales League side Kerry to earn a move to Caersws.
Davies went on to make 239 appearances in a nine year spell with the Bluebirds, before switching to Welshpool in 2008.
However Davies returned to the Recreation Ground in 2009 with a further 23 appearances before ending his top flight career with 46 goals from 283 games.
McNamee has also welcomed wideman Tony Meredith back to the club, following a brief spell with Bishops Castle Town.
The 27-year-old provides the club with more attacking options.
