Builth Wells 69 Maesteg 0
BUILTH overwhelmed fallen Welsh Premiership giants Maesteg to earn the praise of coach Nic Howells ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash with Cwmllynfell.
Howells said: “Maesteg have struggled this season but that does not deflect from an outstanding display from the team, with the points a reward for all the effort put in.
“Several players took their chance and I was really happy with their contribution,” added Howells. “We have been going through a transition but this performance underlines that we are certainly heading in the right direction ahead of the Cwmllynfell game.”
Former youth team outside half Luke Offa started the rout with the first try in the early minutes, with the youngster going on to amass 29 points through a further try, eight conversions and a penalty goal in a near faultless display, which earned him the man-of- the-match award.
Builth were at their clinical best scoring points regularly almost every time they had chances in the visitors’ half and were rewarded with further first-half tries by Luke Dewinton, George Jenkins and Sam Gillian.
Further tries were scored after the break through Offa, Gillian, Andy Garrod and Rob Lloyd, with Jenkins also crossing the line twice to complete his hat-trick of tries.
Maesteg although having an abundance of possession and territory never had the ability to beat the Builth defence, which held strong throughout.
However the Bulls were once again cited for ill discipline, with Dewinton and Gavin Jones sent to the sin bin for their offences
