Iwan Jones.

LLANIDLOES handed out a 12 try thumping, as a depleted Machynlleth left Cae Hafren soundly beaten.

Flanker Anthony Mills and centre Paul Jehu shared the limelight with three tries apiece, as Llanidloes ruthlessly despatched their neighbours.

Coach Jordan Davies was delighted with his side’s response, having lost their opening day clash with Dolgellau.

“The lads were up for this,” said Davies. “They were gutted at the performance against Dolgellau and wanted to put things right and get our season up and running.

“All credit to Machynlleth who were obviously struggling for a team as they battled for the full 80 minutes.”

Lock Gareth Anwyl also went over for a brace of tries as Llanidloes underlined their superiority in all departments.

Further tries from No8 Jamie Mills, prop James Plumridge, scrum-half Ioan Jones and replacement wing Sam Vaughan completed the try count.

Fly-half Dan Short kicked seven conversions and a penalty, to round up a satisfying derby display for Llanidloes.

To their credit a young Machynlleth side refused to surrender and competed for the duration, but the gulf in class proved too much.

There was scant consolation on offer for an outclassed Machynlleth side apart from a try from centre Steffan Price, converted by Iwan Jones.

Machynlleth coach John Davies said: “We went into the game without several players but that is no excuse.

“The young lads who came in will learn a lot from this game and hopefully we can kick-start our season at home to Newtown this weekend.”
