Montgomery 107 all out lost to
Cound 110 for 8 by 2 wickets
MONTGOMERY handed Cound a scare as their bowlers threatened to pull off a great escape, before falling to a two wicket defeat at an overcast Lymore.
Cound put the home side in to bat, and soon the devilishly fast Alex Johnson claimed both of Monty’s opening wickets.
Aaron Ruffcock was trapped LBW for seven and Sam Davies was bowled for 16, as Johnson finished with figures of 3-19.
Wickets came in quick succession as Bennett brothers Robert and Ed both departed cheaply, until Richard Blayney and Jack Williams formed a partnership.
The pair resisted the bowling of Johnson and Andy Harrison and the stand was only broken when Jack Williams was run out for a top score of 33.
Blayney departed shortly afterwards for 24 to expose the tail, which was quickly taken care of to leave Montgomery 107 all out.
Monty bowling far outshone their batting, as they managed to reduce the unnerved Cound to 14-5 within the opening eight overs.
Andrew Barker (3-6) shone and was supported by Neil Tuffin (2-20.)
Despite the controlled bowling of Jack Williams (3-12) Montgomery were not able to hold back the flow of runs from a big-hitting Johnson and steady Matt Jones, who pushed their side over the finishing line with just a solitary ball to spare.
