Llanidloes 83 all out lost to
Forton 176 for 7 by 93 runs

LLANIDLOES returned to earth with a jolt in a 93 run thrashing at Forton, with brothers Matthew and Chris Sayers taking seven of their wickets.

The visitors had stunned title chasing Alberbury in a four wicket win just a week before, but struggled against Forton.

Early success for Llani saw home opener Antony Barrett caught behind for six by wicketkeeper Marc Hughes, off Simon Jones.

However surviving opener Steven Berger (58) was joined in a crucial second wicket partnership by Owen Meredith (40) with Richard Anthony (38) also in form for Forton.

Meredith was eventually caught and bowled by Andrew Evans (1-19,) while Berger was run out by Hughes for a top scoring knock of 58.

Simon Jones completed his 3-60 with Anthony caught by Dan Benbow for 38 and Adam Goulding bowled for just five, while Rhys Jones (1-23) dismissed Mark Gleeson (5.)

An unbroken eighth wicket stand between Matt MacInnes (3no) and Mark Hill (3no) saw Forton set a target of 176-7 for Llani to chase.

The visitors struggled for runs in reply, with opener Andrew Evans caught for a duck by Meredith off Matthew Sayers, with Geraint Evans departing for 11 in a similar fashion.

Paul Rowe, Rhys Jones and Simon Jones departed for successive ducks, as Matthew Sayers (3-14) completed his haul, while brother Chris Sayers (4-15) made light work of the remaining middle order.

Only Marc Hughes (25no) and skipper Robert Jones (22) managed prolonged spells of resistance, but when the latter was bowled by MacInnes (1-12) it spelt the end of the visitors who were all out for 83.
