HAIRDRESSING students at Coleg Powys in Llandrindod Wells are proving themselves to be a cut above the rest, after staging a fashion photo shoot.
The level three students put their creativity and artistic talents to the test by taking part in the professional photo shoot as part of a major unit in their NVQ hairdressing qualification.

Planning for the event started in November, with students responsible for organising the shoot from start to finish. This included booking a professional photographer and completing all the necessary health and safety documentation, as well as thorough research and planning towards a range of styles based on a theme or avant-garde looks.

Course tutor, Donna Morgan said: "The amount of work that has gone in to the students' assignments is immense.

"I am very proud of what they have achieved – planning the event from beginning to end as well as taking part. The photos produced are of a standard that could be published in major fashion magazines.

"I would also like to thank the photographer, Brenda Bullock and her team, for all of their hard work.

Anyone who is interested in a career in hairdressing or is already working in a salon but has not yet got a level three qualification, can phone me for further details on 0845 4086 314."

Students taking part in the hair-raising feat have learnt that a career in hairdressing is not just about dealing with day to day clients, but their chosen vocation can also demand the artistic flair and creativity required for magazines, catwalks and films.

The level three students are in their final year at the college and will be qualified to a standard required by employers in June.

They have all completed a minimum of three years at Coleg Powys Llandrindod Wells and some are already working at local salons in the area.
