FOR Sunday School children in Newtown, the highlight of the year was a trip to Aberystwyth.
The photograph on the right shoes a Sunday School class and its teachers from the 1950's boarding a train at Shrewsbury.

The picture was sent in by Idris Owen of Newtown, who said: "The guard for the day was from Newtown - the late Mr Llewellyn I believe.

"Next to the guard is me, the secretary of the Sunday School Union and then Mr Llewllyn's son, Derek and the Station Master.

"The numbers increased to the need for two trains to the coast in those days and one very interesting feature is that oen year I was asked to enquire whether Mid Wales Motorways would be cheaper.

"They were so we took 29 coaches followed by a break down driver behind us to Aberystwyth."
