DESCRIBED as the "End of an era" - we look back to October 1978 when the old hospital and workhouse in Knighton was demolished.

The building was erected in the 1800's as a workhouse, to cater for the large number of poor and destitute in the area.

The Knighton warehouse was then used as a hospital for wounded soldiers from 1914-18, before reverting back to a workhouse until the standards of living improved and workhouses became extinct.

The warehouse was then used permanently as a hospital catering mainly for geriatric and maternity cases.
