A TERRITORIAL Army technician from Newtown celebrated winning the most improved award in January 1985
Private Noelyne Powell, 24, from Newtown, picked up the proficiency certificates awarded to her as the most improved recruit at a Passing Out Parade at the Women's Royal Army Corps Centre in Guildford, Surrey.

Noelyne, of New Haven, Parklands, covered such topics as first aid, map reading and army organisation during her two weeks training.

She then returned to her usual occupation as a civil servant but continued to serve with 35 Signal Regt as a radio technician in the TA.
