In April 1976 21-year-old Beryl Griffiths, of Upper Shirley Mellington, Churchstoke, was named as the Dairy Maid of Montgomery.
Beryl, who was working at the time as a civil servant in Hereford with the Department of Health and Social Security, was chosen at a dance in Berriew.

She listed dressmaking and winemaking as her hobbies and was a member of Churchstoke and Montgomery Young Farmers' Club.
