ANDY Davies starred for Britain at this week's 2023 IAU 50 km World Championships in India.

The Forden based Stockport Harrier ended 13th overall in 2:57:14 and the second highest placed British finisher as Britain secured third place and the final podium position.

Spaniard Chakib Lachgar Latrache is the new Men IAU 50 km Champion with finishing time 2:48:20 ahead of Alejandro Vicente in 2:49:30 and Jesus Angel Olmos Pascual with finishing time 2:50:12.

Overall Spain and Great Britain won four medals for each team while Spain won three individually and one in team competition and Great Britain won two individually and two in team competition.

Davies said: "I’m pretty happy to finish 13th overall.

"My legs didn’t feel great from early on so managed to battle my way around the course.

"The temperature got warm towards the end was 29°C so had to try and manage that the best I could. It was a great experience and delighted to help the team get bronze as the second Brit home."
