WELSHPOOL’S lesser known castle is being excavated this month and an open day will be held next to the digging to explain the work and what has been found.
From Monday, February 19, to Saturday, February 24, Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust is excavating the remains of Welshpool motte & bailey castle and is on the lookout for volunteers.
Alex Sperr, of Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust, said: “It’s part of a longer term project to excavate and protect and then promote the castle in Welshpool that so few people know about.”
The trust is also holding an open day on February 24 at Victoria Bowling Club, which is next door to the castle, from 10am to 6pm.
To volunteer to excavate, go to the office to register, email ian.grant@cpat.org.uk or call 01938 553670.
