POWYS is the home to a new British champion.
Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club was represented at the British & Irish Mountain Running Championships in Peebles in Scotland with Mackenzie McCourt being crowned under 17s women’s champion.
McCourt was joined by Newtown clubmate Maddie Hughes who ended 10th and Deeside’s Josie Hurst in ensuring team gold for Wales.

Maddie Griffiths helped Wales to a team bronze in the women’s under 20s race.
Meanwhile Aled Breeze ended 12th and Finley Cullen was 19th in the men’s under 20s race.
Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club spokesperson Sharon Jones said: “Amazing performances from the Harriers on international duty, with highlight of the day Mackenzie being crowned British champion, and the U17 women also claiming team gold.
“Seeing our juniors competing at such a high level in such a hard & technical discipline and getting such incredible results is just magnificent. They all make huge sacrifices to compete at this level. We are all very proud of them.”
