BERRIEW Bowling Club dominated the Welsh National Finals in Llandrindod Wells this week.

The Montgomeryshire village club has a well-earned reputation for winning silverware and producing international talent.

The current crop continued to shine on the lush greens of Llandrindod Wells to come home with two major titles.

Welsh international star Caroline Taylor was joined by Sophie and Emma Gittins in beating Rhian Jones, Dilwen Thomas and Melanie Thomas of Lampeter 21-12 to win the women’s triples crown.

The same clubs clashed in the final of the fours with Sam Boland, Hazel Wilson and Isabel Jones joining Taylor in beating Rhian Jones, Maria Thomas, Dilwen Thomas and Melanie Thomas from Lampeter 20-16 in the final.

Former Wales manager Wilson said: “I am absolutely delighted to win the Welsh Fours again after winning in 2018.

“It was a really close game and we came from behind to win against an experienced Lampeter team. “

Taylor shared Wilson’s joy, saying: “It has been a few years since we last won the triples so it is fantastic to bring home the trophy again.”

Berriew almost completed a hat-trick only to lose the final of the double rink 32-31 against Whitchurch.

Llandrindod Wells’ Betty Morgan lost the final of the women’s over 55s singles 19-14.

Powys clubs remain in contention for silverware as the competition continues with Builth Wells in the semi-finals of the men’s fours and due to take on Cardiff while Machynlleth’s Dai Rowlands is in the semi-final of the men’s senior singles.
