NEWTOWN Cricket Club brought the curtain down on a successful season at their annual presentation evening last weekend.

The club ended the summer as the highest placed Welsh club in the Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire League while their under 15s also won their respective league title.

The clubs stars of the current, future and past met at their Recreation Ground home to toast the glories of 2022.

Joe Monk went home with the first team player of the year and bowler of the year awards while John Anthony was named first team batsman of the year.

Monk was also the top wicket taker in the first division.

Adam Knight won the first team fielder of the year prize while Luan Franken was named allrounder of the year.

Danny Foulkes was named second team player of the year with brother Callum named second team batsman of the year and Jono Davies scooped the bowling prize.

The young player of the year award was presented to Evan Smout.

Meanwhile Griff Davies was named junior batsman of the year and Cai Van Lil the best bowler with Rhys Jones named most improved player with the players all part of the club’s thriving junior ranks..

Becky Jones was presented with the Clubperson of the year award in recognition of her commitment and efforts on behalf of the club.

Meanwhile it has been confirmed Mansfield Sports Group will continue to sponsor the league next season and known as the the MSG Shropshire County Cricket League.
