RUMOURS of a murder or attack by a hammer wielding maniac in Newtown today or over the weekend, have been quashed by Dyfed-Powys Police.
This afternoon The Powys County Times were contacted by people in Newtown who said a "major incident" had taken place.
Following up on these rumours we contacted the Police - who said that there was no truth in them.
Due to receiving more enquiries, Dyfed-Powys Police put out an official statement to calm the situation down.
A Police spokeswoman, said: "We are aware of some rumours circulating on social media and would like to reassure the community we are not dealing with a murder or attack in the #Newtown area."
