THE Welsh National Opera Orchestra are at Newtown’s Hafren theatre this Friday, May 18, with an evening of Summer Opera Classics.
The WNO Orchestra, under the direction of conductor James Southall, will be joined by the gentlemen of the WNO Chorus, with tenor Robyn Lyn Evans and baritone James Cleverton, in this enjoyable programme of operatic favourites, orchestral overtures and interludes, and the odd unknown gem too!
They will feature works by Rossini, Verdi, Gounod, Bizet, Prokofiev, Mozart, Donizetti, Arwel Hughes, Beethoven, and Wagner, with items from ‘La Traviata’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘The Magic Flute’, ‘The Elixir of Love’, ‘Fidelio’ and ‘The Flying Dutchman’.
The popular and varied concert programme of music from the theatre stage, exploring strong male characters from the world of opera, soldiers, sailors, prisoners and priests, plus traditional welsh music for male voices, orchestral favourites and much more besides.
