SHOPPERS at Newtown's Tesco supermarket were helped by members of Plastic Free Powys to rid their purchases of excess packaging.

The Plastic Free Powys campaign is keen to encourage manufacturers to use less plastic in their packaging to help save the planet.

Powys County Councillors from the Plaid Cymru-Green group who are backing the campaign were on hand to help shopper and explain the purpose of the camapaign.

The store visits are intended to make a point about how much waste is created by over-zealous packaging.

Cllr Emily Durrant said: "Another great day raising awareness of excessive and non recyclable plastic in Powys."
