Creative pupils from Llanidloes High School have been praised for their success in the Montgomeryshire Society Schools' Competitions.

Lady Davies presented the talented pupils with certificates and prizes at the school.

The eight pupils, ranging from years seven to 13, won half of the six art prizes and all but one in the essay competition.

The Clement Davies Art Competition for Year 11 to 13 was won by Kate Jerman and taking second prize was Lydia Jerman. Rebecca Jarman-Jones also won second prize for the Year Nine and 10 category.

The Charles Churchill and Mary Valentine competition for written essays in English or Welsh was won by Elin Schultz in the Year Seven and Eight group with Joshua Peck taking second place. For Year Nine and 10, Iola Watson took first first prize with Aerona Ferguson winning second prize.

Founded in 1927, The Montgomeryshire Society is a London-based association for people who have links to the old Mid Wales county which holds many social and cultural events throughout the year. For many years, the Society has held school competitions as a way to contribute to current life across the county.

A Llanidloes High School spokesperson said: "The school congratulates all of the winners and thanks the staff who helped them prepare their entries."
