An inquest has been opened by the Powys Coroner after a man in his 70s died after being hit by a tractor.

Emergency services confirmed an incident happened on a farm in the Llanfair Caereinion area at around 11.30am on Tuesday.

Sadly the man died at the scene and his family have been informed.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this time”, said a Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman.

Welsh Ambulance Service said an ambulance and rapid response vehicle were sent to the incident and the crews were supported by Wales Air Ambulance.

A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said: “We’re aware and assisting police with their enquiries.”

The man has been named locally as father of three, Elwyn Morgan of Fron Green Farm, Cefn Coch.

Powys County Councillor Gareth Jones paid tribute to Mr Morgan saying: “We have lost another member of our close farming community.

“He tragically died at his home doing what he loved; he was about to start lambing. He loved the countryside and the area, and had recently moved back to his home farm.

“My thoughts are with his family during this very sad time.”
