Rail services on the Heart of Wales Line have been restarted after being suspended for nearly a week.

Engineers from Arrive Trains Wales completed an inspection on Tuesday, March 6, and cleared the line to reopen.

A statement from Arriva Trains Wales said: "Following the efforts of Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales staff the Heart of Wales line has now reopened. We would like to thank our customers for their patience. Service will commence today with the 14:05 from Shrewsbury & the 14:35 from Swansea."

The Heart of Wales Line, which connects Builth Wells and Llandrindod with Swansea and Shrewsbury had been closed due to heavy snow for nearly a week, with the most recent train departing Llandrindod on Wednesday, February 28.

Additionally, no replacement bus services had been able to operate on the route, which also serves Llanwrtyd, Llangammarch, Penybont and Dolau, due to poor road conditions.
