A BUILTH Wells woman who had her leg amputated has spoken about the “silver lining” of her harrowing ordeal, after being selected to play para-bowls for Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Australia this spring.

Pauline Wilson from Builth Wells had her leg amputated below the knee in 2014 after an operation in 2008 left serious damage to both of her legs.

Despite the shock and trauma, Pauline was determined to continue her love for bowls and was back playing just a few weeks after the procedure.

Pauline bowled using a wheelchair until she received her prosthetic leg in 2015.

She said: “Despite the heartache and anguish of going through something that should never have happened. I can say there really is a silver lining to my story.

“I have met some wonderful and inspiring para-bowlers who have become my friends, team-mates and competitors and I have the privilege of representing and playing para-bowls for my country.”

Pauline joins a team of over 200 athletes who will compete for Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 - 15.
