A NEWTOWN aerial photo, video & marketing business has won a national technology award.

Dragon UAV, an aerial photo, video & marketing business based in Newtown, attended the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, to receive a “Tourism Business Innovation Award” from Jason Thomas, Director of Culture, Sport and Tourism for Visit Wales.

More than 400 entries were received for the category, and Dragon UAV was selected as the regional winner for Mid Wales with its “aerial tour of Mid-Wales”, which can be found on the website http://dragonuav.co.uk/aerial-tour-of-wales/

Stu Trigg, business owner and senior pilot, said: “We are really delighted to win this award, in recognition of our aerial tour. This has been a labour of love and provides a new way to view Mid-Wales from the air, using our drone craft to give an otherwise unseen perspective and providing historical, cultural and tourism information in an engaging and interactive way.

"The tour can be accessed in a fully inclusive manner on any device from a PC, to a smartphone, to a virtual reality setup, so everyone can enjoy our heritage and view our picturesque landscapes.

"We are also very pleased to announce that the tour will soon have a backing soundtrack by the Welsh legend Cerys Matthews, who has granted us permission to use her amazing music on the project.”

On further development, Stuart added: “We encourage everyone to experience the tour and we will soon begin to seek funding to expand the reach, taking in even more of this wonderful country.

"It marks the start of our Digital Preservation Project, which we will provide more information on as it takes shape.”

Chairman of Newtown’s Going Green for a Living scheme, Stuart Owen, congratulated Dragon UAV on this award, saying: “I’m so pleased for Dragon UAV. This is the kind of innovation that we hope to see more of in Mid Wales, putting Newtown and the Severn Valley on the map.

"Mid Wales has so many beautiful landscapes and deep history. I can’t wait to see more of this development and encourage Dragon UAV to seek further funding and collaboration, to make this virtual tour a reality.”
