WELSHPOOL'S multi-million pound development is being put at risk due to Welsh Assembly Government delays claim two local politicians.

Plans to redevelop the Welshpool Livestock Market are awaiting the go-ahead from the Welsh Assembly, which needs to assess the highways implications of the scheme.

However both Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Opik and his Conservative opponent at the next general election, Glyn Davies, have said the delays in getting the project signed off by the Assembly are putting the whole development at risk.

It is understood the costs of the project have been increasing since the turn of the year and that every day the project is delayed the costs increase

This is mainly due to increases in the price of steel, aggregate and general construction work.
