LLANYMYNECH stunner Jamie Williams received the perfect present when she finished third in the final of Miss Universe UK 2008 – just three days before her 22nd birthday.
Jamie, currently a student in London, was named second runner-up in the final of the national competition when she wowed the judges with her selection of evening, beach and disco wear.

"I am delighted to have come third out of 42 girls as I thought it was a much tougher contest than any I have been in before," she said.
"It was a really great feeling when I heard my name being called out because I wasn't sure how well I had done."

In 2006 Jamie finished second in the Miss Wales beauty pageant, but admits finishing third in this national competition eclipses her achievement of two years ago.

"Although the format of the competition was similar to Miss Wales it was a much harder this time. Miss Wales was my first ever competition and to finish placed back then was really good, but to do the same at Miss Universe UK is fantastic.

"My aim now is to enter a lot more competitions during the next two years. I have already qualified for the final of Miss Beauty Queen, which takes place in Liverpool on June 8, and hopefully I can go two better and win it."

The high profile event held at the Café de Paris, London, proved to be a great day for Powys as Welshpool's Sarah Rowlands, 24, returned home with the Miss Charity title for raising the largest amount of money.

Sarah, who works as a beauty therapist at Trendi, Welshpool, won the award after she raised more than £4,000 for the competition's chosen charity The Joshua Foundation – an organisation that arranges family holidays and days out for children suffering from terminal cancer. The total raised by the competition was £35,000.

"Raising lots of money for the Joshua Foundation was always the main goal for entering the competition, and to get such an honourable title as Miss Charity for doing this is great," said Sarah.

"The experience of entering such a high profile national competition is absolutely amazing and one I will never forget. I made a lot of new friends on the day and met a lot of really nice girls."

The competition was won by Llanelli model Lisa Lazarus, who will now go on to represent the UK in the Miss Universe world final.

25-year-old Beverley Roberts, of Trefeglwys, also made the final, but was unsuccessful.

The 39 finalists took part in three catwalk rounds in front of a panel of judges, which included Arsenal players Bacary Sagna and Justin Hoyte, Kemal Shahin of Big Brother fame and Sarah Cornelius of the Joshua Foundation.

The Joshua Foundation is a charity that provides holidays and events for children with terminal cancer.
