A LUCKY dad-of-four from Machynlleth will finally get to say 'I do' to his fiancée of two years after scratching his way to the top prize of £1,000 every week for a year on the Weekly Grand Scratchcard from The National Lottery.
Rhys Ap Dafydd, a 28-year-old rail worker, and his partner, Elaine Griffiths, 27, had to cancel their initial wedding plans when he was suddenly made redundant from his previous job.
Now, with his new-found wealth, Rhys is going to make sure his wife-to-be has a 'grand' time on their wedding day.
The couple, who have four children, Connor (eight), Sophie (six), Cayo (two) and Erin (one), will marry at the Plas Talgarth Health and Leisure Club in the Snowdonia National Park in mid-November.
Rhys said: "Since getting engaged we have been desperately trying to get married, but for one reason or another the money just wasn't there to do it.
"When I first realised I had hit the top prize I couldn't believe it.
"It slowly dawned on us that we could now get married and we have already booked our dream wedding for 10 weeks' time.
"It's so important to me that Elaine, the children and all our guests have the perfect day, and the money that we have won will not only make sure that this can happen, but it also means we can enjoy life and have a great Christmas."
National Lottery Scratchcards offer players a whole range of instant cash prizes at their fingertips.
With two games to play and the opportunity to win up to eight times on each ticket, the Weekly Grand Scratchcard costs £2 and offers overall odds of 1 in 4.62 of winning a prize.
Rhys bought his winning Scratchcard from the Spar store in Maengwyn Street, in Machynlleth.
