AN OUTDOOR production with music, dancing, history, magic and fireworks is being held at the magnificent setting of the Llanymynech Limeworks to celebrate the completion of the restoration project.
The play, In the Limelight, performed by Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society and written by Neil Rhodes, is about Llanymynech in the Victorian times. It is a promenade production and the action, cast and audience will move around the heritage centre ending inside the Hoffmann Kiln as the stories of some famous people from Llanymynech unfold.
These include Thomas Savin, past Mayor of Oswestry, and railway engineer in the 1860s. Savin was the owner of Llanymynech quarry but was declared bankrupt, leaving many railway projects linked with the Cambrian unfinished.
Learn about what happened to Ned Pugh who, legend has it, made a wager that he could go into Ogof Cave and walk under the village while playing his fiddle so all could hear him.
The performance takes place at the Llanymynech Limeworks Heritage Area, starting at 7pm with a May Fair, stalls and maypole dancing. The play will begin at 7.30pm, running for four nights – Wednesday, July 9, Thursday 10, Friday 11, and Saturday, July 12.
The play will be suitable for all ages, numbers are limited, with very few tickets available for sale on the door, so buy in advance to avoid disappointment.
Tickets, priced £5 (£4 concessions), are on sale at Llanymynech Village Hall, Llanymynech Post Office, The Herbarium, Oswestry, and the Oswestry Tourist Information Office, Mile End.
In The Limelight will involve some walking, if the weather is fairly wet, bring an umbrella, if it is very wet, the play will be performed inside the Kiln.
