TWO men from Newtown have been charged with conspiring to support the banned Tamil Tigers terrorist organisation, Scotland Yard has confirmed.
46-year-old Jegatheswaran Muraleetharan, also known as Muralee Tharan, of 33 Beechwood Drive, Newtown, and Jeyatheswaran Vythyatharan, also known as Vithy Tharan, 39, of 21 Crescent Gardens, Newtown, were both due to appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court yesterday (Thursday).

Between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2006, the pair are accused of conspiring together to receive components including Toughnote laptop computers, head torches, printed circuit boards and printed circuit board equipment, lithium coin cell batteries, electrical equipment, GPS and antenna equipment, transceivers, radio equipment, navigation systems and high power magnets, intending that they be used or having reasonable cause to suspect that they may be used for terrorism.

Two men from London have also been charged with the same offences.
