CHEERFUL six-year-old Nathan Bebbington has been named The County Times Child Of The Year 2008.

Nathan was nominated by his 62-year-old friend Elaine Richards, who described him as the kind of person you couldn't help but fall in love with.

Due to birth defects every day is an act of sheer courage for this little man, especially when at the age of three he had to have both of his legs amputated at the knee and be fitted with prosthetic limbs.

However, Nathan has never been one to let anything get in his way and already he has completed three Santa Runs, raising more than £1,500 for Birmingham's Children's Hospital.

"I could go on and on about Nathan, but you would have to meet him yourselves. You wouldn't be able to help yourself falling in love with him," said Elaine Richards.

"He is so happy and cheerful it makes me feel ashamed when I moan and groan."

Nathan recently learned to ride a push bike without stabilisers.

As a result of winning the County Times Child of the Year competition Nathan, formerly of Montgomery and Knighton, will now receive a number of prizes including: A hamper from HG Jones, a three month swimming voucher from The Dragon Hotel, Montgomery, a voucher from Ego, Newtown, a voucher from Jane's Interiors, a £25 voucher at Super Scoop, Welshpool, a voucher and two tubs of ice cream from Dairy Dreams, Sarn and a prize from Nigel Pryce Carpets.
