THE Llanfair Caereinion Institute's Centenary Project has been given a further boost thanks to a £25,000 Welsh Assembly Government grant.
Llanfair Caereinon Public Hall and Institute will receive £25,000 through the Welsh Assembly's Community Facilities and Activities Programme grant scheme to put towards the cost of refurbishing the community building.
The Centenary Project will
see the Institute, which reaches its 100th year in 2013, completely refurbished with a lift, new toilets, a sound and lighting system for the main hall and a media centre capable of recording DVDs and CDs and publishing a community newsletter.
Leighton Andrews, Deputy Minister for Regeneration, said: "The scheme is continuing to make a real, tangible difference to community and voluntary groups at grass roots level by supporting the further creation of new facilities and services for groups at the heart of our communities.
"These grants are not simply about improving buildings.
"They enable all people, young and old, to form new friendships and get involved in social activities.
"This contributes to the regeneration and vitality of our communities," he added.
Members of the Institute are continuing to fundraise energetically to reach their target by the end of September, when the project will be officially launched.
It is hoped that the refurbishment will be completed within 12 months.
