SET to open at 8am on Monday March 14, the new Tesco superstore in Welshpool will be open 24 hours a day except on Sundays, it was confirmed this week
The official opening includes a presentation of £1,000 to a local charity.
Mayor of Welshpool, Cllr Estelle Bleivas, will cut a ribbon to officially open the store alongside the store manager Linda McGill at 8am on Monday.
And at 10am, the official launch ceremony will take place with customers able to join in the celebrations and enjoy complimentary cake, champagne and orange juice.
The ceremony will involve the presentation of the £1,000 charity donation to the town’s TJ Evans Trust, the local charity that looks after the town’s almshouses which provides low cost sheltered housing to residents of Welshpool who are over the age of 60 years and in need.
Linda and her new team will present the cheque to Sue Richards, the administrative officer of TJ Evans Trust, and Cllr Ann Holloway, one of the trustees.
Linda McGill recently took time out to be pictured receiving the keys to the new store signifying that the structural work to the store, on Smithfield Road, is complete.
The new superstore is creating 189 new jobs and staff have been busy stocking the shelves and Linda said: “We are all really excited and cannot wait for opening day. We hope that the residents of Welshpool and the surrounding areas will be pleased with the new store.”
“My staff and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community,” Linda added.
The store offers three hours’ free parking and a petrol station. As well as all the everyday essential items, the new store will offer hot chicken, fresh fish and meat counters, Indian and Chinese takeaway dishes, a delicatessen and a bakery, baking fresh products in store every day.
There will also be a wide selection of non-food ranges, including clothing, health and beauty, home entertainment, electricals, toys, stationery homeware, cookware and a selection of mobile phones.
The new store will normally open at 6am on Mondays for 24 hours until midnight Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sundays.
Linda McGill said the team was looking forward to welcoming customers into the new store, saying: “My staff and I are very excited about opening day. We hope that we can offer local residents a friendly and convenient place to shop and will strive to offer great value for money with fantastic customer service.
“We look forward to becoming a part of the warm, friendly community of Welshpool.
