REPORTS that Tesco has shelved Phase Two of its Welshpool project have been dismissed as “absolute rubbish”.
Supermarket giants Tesco will open its new store in Welshpool on March 14 and are in discussions with a number of national retailers regarding the lease of four retail units on the old Smithfield Site, despite reports coming out that these plans have been “shelved”.
Sophie Akokhia, of Tesco, told the County Times: “I have not read these articles but I can assure you they are not true. It is all absolute rubbish.
“There has been a lot interest in the retail units. We must have spoken to at least 12 national retailers and are currently holding in-depth conversations with three or four of those.”
A number of high street names have been linked with the units, including Halfords, Peacocks and Argos, but Tesco say they are not in a position to confirm names.
