YET again Denbigh Harriers excelled themselves at Saturday’s North Wales Cross Country championships.

Competing against much bigger clubs, Denbigh found themselves coming away with a big bag of medals and trophies.

The rapidly improving Emma Collins ran a superb race to win the ladies V45 gold, as did Vicky Cortvriend in the V55 category.

The men’s and ladies’ teams won place medals and Tracey Williams, Paul Ballinger, Martin Cortvriend and Budge English also won age group trophies.

A record 19 runners from Denbigh Harriers turned out, by far the greatest number of entries from any club taking part, which reflects a real upsurge in the sport in the area.

Several newcomers had their first championships runs, including 18-year-old Matthew Davies in only his second senior race and he was fourth in the U-20 grouping.

The future for running in Denbigh looks very bright!
