TECHNOGROUP Welshpool have withdrawn from the Central Wales Cup for a second time following a week of controversy.

The 10-time winners of the famous trophy had initially withdrawn ahead of their scheduled third round trip to Tregaron Turfs.

However ,the club completed a quick U-turn and hoped to complete the fixture after the Central Wales FA admitted them back into the cup – much to the outrage of Tregaron.

However, following a week of controversy the Lilywhites have withdrawn from the competition again.

General manager Liam Pritchard hoped the withdrawal would draw a line under the sorry episode and offered apologies to Tregaron.

“When the club made the request to the Central Wales FA to be reinstated into the competition, we were led to believe that Tregaron Turfs were happy for us to come back in and play them.”

“Obviously, something got lost in translation and this proved to be the opposite of the case.

“Having read comments in the media coming from Tregaron FC, I felt that they were quite right in what they were saying that it was unfair and we were being shown preferential treatment because we were a “big name” club.

“Having discussed this view with the committee members and people such as Tegwyn Evans. we were all in agreement we really should not be allowed back in.

“To save the time and effort of the volunteers at the Central Wales FA, as well as doing the honourable thing as far as Tregaron were concerned, we withdrew for a second and final time.”

Full third round draw: Caersws v Berriew; Dyffryn Banw v Penrhyncoch; Guilsfield v Bow Street; Llanidloes Town v Rhayader Town; Meifod/ Waterloo Rovers v Carno; Penparcau/ Llanrhaeadr v Montgomery Town; Rhosgoch v Builth Wells; Tregaron Turfs v Llansanffraid Village
