LLANFAIR Caereinion Town is all set to light up for Christmas on Friday, December 10, when the festive night will begin with the magical sound of music, for the grand Christmas parade and the switching on of the Christmas lights, while there will also be an added burst of colour as fireworks light up the night sky.
The lights committee is planning a spectacular lights show again this year, they invite everyone to come along for a fantastic evening of festive fun for all ages, and support the town.
The magical evening starts with the fancy dress competition at the Public Institute, with judging promptly at 6pm, this competition is free to enter and there are prizes for the winners. All entrants can then walk in the grand parade.
But the fun starts with a spectacular firework display to light up the night sky prior to the switching on of the Christmas Lights at 6.30pm. This year the switching on ceremony will be performed in the square at 6.30pm by Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies, who has been a keen supporter of the festive event.
This will be followed by the grand parade through the town led by the Town Crier, Geraint Peate, with children and adults in fancy dress carrying their spectacular array of lanterns and glo-lights. The Snow Princess will follow on her magical float with her delightful attendants.
Father Christmas is set to weave his way on his sleigh, accompanied by his elves and reindeer and with other Christmas characters on foot, will then make a tour of the town centre spreading good will and festive cheer.
But that’s not all, as through the course of the night there will be street entertainment provided, with Christmas music played by a barrel organ; a stilt walker, a fire-eater, a juggler and carol singing in the town centre adding to the Christmas spirit.
The creative Nativity scene will be lit up again this year by Moreia Chapel.
Elsewhere in Llanfair, at the Public Institute with free admission, a very warm welcome awaits everyone with festive refreshments, and there will be many craft and Christmas gifts stalls, produce and organic foods, Christmas wreaths, floral art, tombola, toys and competitions, and the grand Christmas draw has excellent prizes.
With Santa in attendance at the Institute, the eagerly awaited results of the best dressed fancy dress competition winners and medals will be presented to the winners, also the results of the children’s art competition for primary school age will be announced with prizes for the winners.
Some of the roads leading into the town centre Square will be closed to all traffic on the night from 6pm until 7pm, to make room for the procession and for the visitors to pack in. There will be no parking on the town’s streets from 5pm.
