WELL with our play-off spot guaranteed we had to play San Jose in California last weekend.
Now this was always going to be a tough match against the Quakes, who had the leading scorer in the league in their ranks.
The game was highly entertaining and we thoroughly deserved our 1-0 victory in the first leg. In fact we maybe could have come away with a bigger margin, but we were very happy with the result.
The second leg promises to be a real tough match this week in a game that will no doubt have more twists and turns. It was nice being involved in the play-offs this year as we had missed out last year when I was at Toronto on the last day of the season, but we want to now go on as far as we can.
It was fitting that after our victory and return from San Jose, a gentleman stopped me and asked how my dad was doing?
Obviously not knowing that he has sadly left me; the guy knew my dad from years ago. It brought back even more memories for me and made my five-hour flight home very long and to say I was in deep thought was an understatement.
It still hasn’t sunk in that I can’t call him and chat about the game, but whatever I do from this moment on will be what he would have wanted.
This I can guarantee you as his legacy will last through myself and my son Milo – who he totally adored – as well as my daughter Lowri. Fitting I think that a big picture hangs on the wall of my son’s room of my dad!
At the end of this season I have a big decision to make as to what and where my future will be. I have totally loved my time abroad and my family has been so welcomed over here, which helps very much. I will sit down with them and make the right choice, the choice I know my dad would have wanted.
Talk about results this week – we have seen Newcastle thrash rivals Sunderland by five goals and Wolves upsetting Man City at Molineux.
West Brom had two men sent off in a defeat to Blackpool and Man United scored another controversial goal through Nani.
Add into that Harry Redknapp’s rant and threats not to talk to the media anymore, and it was a amusing weekend in the football world.
Gareth Bale at the moment is without doubt the best player in the premiership. FACT! His performance against the best right back in the world, in the game at White Hart Lane was phenomenal.
He showed pace, power and final product in a complete performance. That was after his hat-trick against Inter Milan at the San Siro the previous fortnight. Words being spoken about him are “why isn’t he English”, “can he be better than Ryan Giggs” are just some of the praise coming his way.
He is Welsh and I’m delighted as hopefully he can lead us to a major tournament one day and make every Welshman proud!
The NBA season has started here which I’m delighted with and have been to watch the New York Knicks play a few times.
The World Series of baseball was won by San Francisco Giants for the first time in 56 years, which shows the underdog still has its day!
Finally I went to the launch of Microsoft’s ‘Kinect’ in Times Square this week.
This is taking technology to the next level again... Just wait till it launches in the UK!
