Bright orange lights above Wrexham in night sky

AN ASTRONOMER has been left baffled by seven bright orange lights flying across the night sky.

At about 9.45pm on Saturday Mark Young, who is studying towards an Open University degree in astronomy, spotted two orange orbs in the sky.

Mark, of Bersham Road, Bersham, said: “My wife said ‘oh my god Mark look at that.’

“We saw two lights moving from the South East to the East.

“They were a very strange colour-like bright white in the centre with orange and then red around the outside.

“There was no noise and they were travelling probably about 500mph.

“They weren’t aircraft.”

Mark, who is now retired but has a keen interest in astronomy said he has seen asteroids, planets and moons before but nothing like this.

Mark and wife Pauline then witnessed a further five similar orange lights moving across the sky.

He said he was sure the objects were not chinese lanterns because of the speed they were travelling and the intensity of the colour.

He said: “If they were chinese lanterns then I’m the Pope.”

Altogether the lights were seen over a period of about 15 minutes and they were moving in the same direction.

He managed to capture one of the lights on camera but the image does show camera shake.

“The lights must have had a very high KV rating to burn such a trail onto the digital imaging sensors in my camera,” he added.

“I haven’t a clue what they could have been.

“I reckon they were about three miles away and maybe 10-20 ft in size.”

So could the lights have been visitors from another planet?

Mark’s said he wasn’t sure but added: “Considering there’s 200 billion stars in our galaxy the odds are that there is life out there. I would put money on it.”

No Mark you're not the Pope.... despite all the advances in science since the start of the space race in the sixties...mankind has still only got a minute understanding ofthe universe and all its mysteries

There was also a very strong south easterly wind on Saturday evening....

500mph for 15 mins?! So they travelled 125 miles and you could still see them. Where exactly had you parked your pope-mobile?

I too, saw these lanterns, on Saturday evening, going at some speed and from the direction of the A483 at Mold Road, towards Wrexham town centre.

If you have a look at the following Youtube you will see remarkable similarities to the photo Mr Young submitted to the paper. The shutter speed on the camera explains the 'tail effect' of the lantern.

I also saw these and can 110% tell you that they were Chinese Laterns, heading west to east from Pandy area across Borras Also, there was a strong wind that night hence they were moving faster. He says 3 miiles away, moving 500mph and could see them for 15mins! What a good astronomer!

I was driving my son to his gymnastics class on Friday 10/9 when as we approached the Holt rd roundabout he asked me what that in the sky ? I couldn't look for long as I was driving and only caught glimpses but what I saw was a gray sort of helicopter shape stationary high in the sky. If it was a helecopter it was very high for observation and if was a plane haw could it stay stationary?

There are many things that we can't explain; one of the most perplexing quandaries is why UFOs only appear to people who are unable to use camera equipment correctly.

I just caught sight of two similar lights they looked as though they had wings but could not see as they were moving too fast. Bright orange, two of them together and silent. There is no way these were Chinese lanterns. Too Big and moving too fast and steady and flying / floating together. I don’t believe in aliens etc but this baffles me.....are they doing any aircraft testing or something in North Wales?
