YOUNG drivers in Powys are being urged by Powys County Council to take part in a course to gain valuable experience and skills to reduce their road risk.
The council’s Road Safety Unit is facilitating the Pass Plus Cymru Scheme thanks to funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The scheme, aimed at 17 to 25 year olds who hold a full driving licence, consists of a theory and practical session which are carried out by Approved Driving Instructors.
As well as reducing road risk and helping gain valuable experience and skills, young drivers may also be entitled to reduced insurance costs.
Cllr Geraint Hopkins, Board Member responsible for Road Safety, said: “Since the introduction of this course in 2007, combined with Secondary School education, there has been a dramatic decrease in the number of young drivers who are killed or seriously injured on our roads.
“I truly believe that this course provides invaluable information and skills, which make our young drivers much safer.”
Courses are now available at the following locations throughout Powys
Brecon Fire Station - 5 October and 7 December at 7pm
Llandrindod Wells Fire Station – 14 September and 2 November at 7pm
Newtown Fire Station – 8 September and 24 November at 6.30pm
The cost of the course to each individual is £20. The Road Safety Unit, through funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, will pay the remaining £80.
