Rhos Aelwys 2 Rhayader Town 0
RHAYADER Town slumped on the road as fellow newboys Rhos Aelwyd maintained their bright start to the season.
The hosts started brightly on their compact Ponciau ground, with a succession of corners forcing debutant goalkeeper Barry Evans into action.
The former Penybont No1 tipped away Mike Pugh’s early effort, before bravely blocking a Dave MacIntyre volley
However Rhayader weathered the early storm with Lance Jones and Rhys Thomas going close in the first-half.
Rhos led five minutes after the break with a rare moment of indecision from Evans allowing Mike Burke to nip in and open the scoring.
Just four minutes later a flowing move culminated in midfielder Aeron Edwards bursting through to net.
The visitors pressed for the final half hour but struggled to find a route through, with Lance Jones heading wide from close range.
Assistant manager Tim Broome said: “This was another game where we should have really got something. We are learning all the time and expect us to be that bit better for our next match.
“It is a difficult league to adapt to but we are confident that the players have the qualities needed to start picking up points in coming weeks. I felt Barry did really well on his debut with some great early saves, so hopefully he can be a big signing.”
