Newtown 1 Prestatyn 0

PRESTATYN boss Neil Gibson might have known not to expect much from a visit to Newtown and that's just what he got.

Latham Park again lived up to its graveyard reputation and a goal in the 12th minute from defender Paul Keddle proved sufficient to land Newtown's new manager Andy Cale all three points and lift them up to second place in the WPL table.

Ex-Rhyl manager Cale had cautioned his new side to beware of up-and-coming Prestatyn and confessed that they might have to make do with a point.

Prestatyn should be so lucky! Despite a spirited effort and no shortage of creative effort, the seasiders came away empty handed on all fronts to dip to tenth place in the table.

There seemed no danger when Steve Hoult was heading towards the Newtown goal but he was quickly dispossessed by Adam Wharton who spotted the chance to lift a cross into the box where Keddle took full advantage of the unchallenged space around him to steer a powerful header wide of keeper Jon Hill-Dunt for what proved the winner.

Gibson brought on all three subs midway through the second half as Steve Rogers, Gibson himself and goal-getter Ian Griffiths were injected into the action to freshen up Prestatyn's strenuous attempts to to conjure up an equaliser.

Next up for Prestatyn is a trip to Aberystwyth Town on Sunday.
