TWENTY three Young Farmers from Montgomeryshire raised more than £7,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance by completing the Severn Challenge.
The eight-day challenge saw the YFC members start at the source of the River Severn, near Llanidloes, and finish more than 150 miles later in the Gloucestershire town of Tewkesbury.
The first section saw the members cycling to Garthmyl before they jumped in their canoes and paddled the rest of the way, stopping to camp in the evenings.
In total they managed to raise an impressive £7,124.83, which has been donated to the Wales Air Ambulance.
Montgomeryshire YFC county vice-chairman, Roland Davies, who came up with the idea, said: “Living in very rural areas we realise how valuable a resource the Air Ambulance is and we wanted to raise money to help keep the service going.
“We are always happy looking at ways of raising money and promoting the YFC and I thought canoeing the length of the River Severn would be a good idea.
“My home town of Llanidloes is the first town of the Severn and as a child it was something I always fancied doing. I hope it shows what can be achieved through the YFC.”
The YFC would like to thank everyone for the support they received.
