SAFETY barriers have finally been installed outside a primary school six months after a child was hit by a car.
Connah’s Quay councillor Bernie Attridge has been leading the calls for the safety measures at the town’s Custom House Lane Primary School following the incident in February when the pupil narrowly avoided serious injury when she fell into the path of an oncoming car.
Chloe Adams, eight, was walking the short distance home with her friends when she tripped and fell into the road.
The car hit her head and knee and she was taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Fortunately she escaped serious injury, but was left traumatised by the incident.
The safety barriers are now in place following the campaign.
Cllr Attridge said: “I had a site meeting with officers many months ago and their view was that one wasn't needed, so I called upon the executive member Cllr Tony Sharps to lend a hand.
“He came down to the site, listened to my case and agreed with me. He then instructed the work to be carried out, which I am extremely thankful for. I owe him a debt of gratitude for his intervention.
“I am confident the barrier now installed will help prevent an accident. It’s better to be proactive rather than reactive after something happens.”
