A FULL retrospective planning application to finish work on the Trewern Argae flood defence has been approved by committee.
At a public meeting in Neuadd Maldwyn, Welshpool, a report on the application was presented to the planning committee by officer Andrew Paddison, who recommended the application for approval.
The Trewern Argae, an earth embankment, was constructed by the landowner to protect the Grade II* Listed Building, Trewern Hall, which dates back to the 16th century.
However, the meeting heard that from a planning perspective, the works up until now have been unauthorised, hence the retrospective application for planning permission.
Three public speakers addressed the meeting including Councillor Dawn Bailey and John Markwick of Leighton who were opposed, and Ian Price who was representing the applicant, Mr Till.
Permission was granted by a majority of seven members for, four against, and three abstentions. 14 out of the 15 members of the committee were present.
