POSTERS created by school children asking residents to care for their local environment have been ripped down by vandals in Llanidloes.
The primary school pupils made the posters as part of a classroom campaign, during which they went on a guided walk around the local area and identified litter, dog fouling and Japanese knotweed as environmental issues which concerned them.
The posters were then put up around problem spots such as green spaces with the help of the town’s mayor.
Just two weeks on, almost all of the posters have been torn or ripped down, and the mayor is furious that the children’s hard work has been destroyed.
Now the mayor is challenging the vandals to confront him and the school children face to face.
In a letter to the County Times, Mayor Cllr John Whittal-Williams writes: “I challenge the person or persons who removed the children’s signs to contact me so that I can arrange a meeting between them and the children, and they can explain their irresponsible actions. Now that will take courage.
“As you can see, I am furious about the situation and hope that dog owners in Llanidloes will join me in this campaign to eliminate dog fouling in our wonderful town.
“I know that the majority of dog owners are very responsible and that we are dealing, as always with a minority. But they are giving all dog owners a disgusting reputation.”
