LAST night people in Powys were treated to some superb sites as a meteor shower filled the skies.
The Perseid meteor shower is sparked every August when the Earth passes through a stream of space debris left by comet Swift-Tuttle.
Andy Keen, a Powys-based natural light photographer and Aurora hunter who chases Northern lights, described the shower as 'awe-inspiring' as he pictured it from Lake Vyrnwy.
"Between the hours of 10.45pm and 3.00am I was fortunate enough to witness, and to photograph the awe-inspiring 'Perseid Meteor Shower' here in Powys", Andy recalled,
"Within minutes of the sun setting, and darkness descending, the night sky was illuminated by brightly coloured meteors, streaking past me and colliding with the earths atmosphere.
"I must have counted at least 40 in the space of an hour. It was an absolutely amazing spectacle and one that will live with me for a lifetime."
Armed with only a Canon 5D Mk II camera, a tripod and a flask of coffee, Andy, who normally spends his time in northern Lapland, was able to take some of the most beautiful photographs of the shower.
