A RAGING woman who rammed a car that would not reverse for her and then threatened to run over another woman has been banned from driving for 12 months.
Jacqueline Elizabeth Griffiths, 45, of Penarron Drive, Kerry, admitted charges of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
She told police she fled the scene because she had ice cream in the car, it was tea time and she needed to get her daughter home.
Stephen Davies, prosecuting, said the incident had taken place on June 24 at Wern Ddu Lane, Newtown.
Griffiths had been travelling along a single-track access-only road from Morrison’s to the Vastre when she came across Karen Gorman-Hawkins, who was travelling towards the supermarket in her Mitsubishi from her home on the lane.
The two cars met with neither having the space to pass and Griffiths continued towards her until she was only five feet away.
Griffiths then gestured for Mrs Gorman-Hawkins to reverse, but she refused as she would have to reverse around a blind corner.
The defendant then shouted at Mrs Gorman-Hawkins before attempting to manoeuvre past.
Griffiths told the other driver she had been using the lane for 14 years and was not going to stop now, denying having seen any access-only signs.
Mr Davies explained: “All of a sudden she revved her engine and came into contact with the front of Mrs Gorman-Hawkins’ car.”
Mrs Gorman-Hawkins then rang her mother and asked her to contact the police.
Mrs Gorman-Hawkins’ mother arrived and tried to catch up with Griffiths who was trying to reverse away. She then stood in front of Griffiths’ car to stop her leaving before the police arrived, but Griffiths told her to move or she would run her over.
She then started driving the car towards her until it was touching her legs.
After her arrest later that day, Griffiths told police she had not shouted during the incident and had remained calm.
She said she had left the scene because she had ice cream in the car.
Owain Jones, in mitigation, said Griffiths was very upset at these offences and was very remorseful.
There was little damage caused and no injury was caused.
Magistrates disqualified Griffiths from driving for 12 months and ordered her to pay £85 costs. She must also complete an 18-month community order and an 18-month supervision order.
