THE last week has been very busy – not just for me but for the football club.
On a personal note I managed to get back into playing action against Colombus Crew last weekend but sadly we lost 2-0 in a very poor performance for us.
It was nice to get some minutes, if only for 15 but after being eight weeks out after surgery then it was a nice feeling.
After that defeat we then prepared for the Barclays New York Challenge Cup tournament.
This consisted of Man City, Spurs, Sporting Lisbon and ourselves. This gave our guys a great opportunity to play some top class players and test themselves. It also gave me a chance to play against some of my old pals, including Robbie Keane and Gareth Bale of Spurs and Craig Bellamy of Man City.
Prior to the tournament we signed Thierry Henry from Barcelona. Now this is a massive signing for the club and also the league.
Everyone sits up and takes notice when a world class player moves club and that’s the case here. Henry has signed a lucrative multi-year contract with Major League Soccer and will be the next big name to join the league.
Rumours also suggests that there will be other superstar players joining in the next few weeks, both here in New York and also at the LA Galaxy.
In our first game we played Spurs, and after scoring early on through Henry we then conceded two late goals as Spurs came out 2-1.
We played very well and put on a good show after some recent problems.
Our second match was against Man City, who have bought 45 players with them on their USA tour, so it was interesting to see what team they played.
They played a mixed team against us and we thoroughly deserved our 2-1 victory against them as we finished behind Sporting and Spurs but above City in the final standings!
It was great preparation for out remaining games ahead in the league.
