RESIDENTS are being warned about a suspected scam offering a job as a mystery shopper in the area.

An advert for the position circulated in the local media in Powys, Chester, Wrexham and Flintshire, before it was brought to the attention of police.

PC Nicky Allen, of Chester Inner Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have received a report of a scam involving newspaper adverts offering paid assignments as a mystery shopper. Although we have no reports of people falling for the scam, it has been brought to our attention by a concerned member of the public.”

As part of the scam, the ‘employee’ is asked to complete three mystery shopper assignments, one of which is a transfer of their own money into an off-shore account. They are then promised a large sum of money which is sent through by cheque. The cheque bounces and their money is lost.

PC Allen said: “As with any of these types of scams if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.”

Anyone with information should call Chester CID on 0845 458 0000 or Crime- stoppers on 0800 555111.
